Notifiable Data Breaches Down, but OAIC Stresses Need for Vigilance

Healthcare organisations were most likely to report a data breach in 1H 2023, reveals The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). Though entities reported 15% fewer data breaches than 2H 2022, the report received 409 notifications in six months. Human error accounted for 26% of the breaches, system glitches for 4%, and malicious or criminal attacks for 70%, further emphasising the need for better cybersecurity measures.
