Cyberattacks targeted at manufacturers in the United States are frequent, particularly due to their importance within the economy and the value of their data for intellectual property or identity theft. Instances of cyberattacks associated with industrial control systems have increased. A lack of monitoring of these operational technology (OT) environments is a prime vulnerability. Preventative measures include a thorough cyber-incident response plan and the adoption of a cybersecurity framework. A strong internal culture of cybersecurity, including employee training and early inclusion of security controls, can also minimize risk.
