German firms see spike in Russia, China cyberattacks with annual economy loss of $160 bn

Cyber threats and attacks on German companies, primarily from Russia and China, have notably increased, as reported by Bitkom. Around 46% of such attacks were traced back to Russia in 2023, a significant rise from the 23% in 2021. Furthermore, 42% of surveyed German companies believe most of the cyberattacks originated in China. This represents a 30% increase from 2021. Sinan Selen, VP of German domestic intelligence, confirmed that these cyber fingerprints could be traced back to their origins.
